The Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office responded to an incident inside a university in Mandaue City, where a nursing student fell off the school building around 8:00 Monday morning. The authorities are investigating whether the 19-year-old student intentionally jumped or accidentally fell.

A university official confirmed that the incident happened but refused to give further details since the investigation is underway.

Police Major John Libres, chief of the Opao Police Station in Mandaue City said it's difficult to speculate since the 10th floor where the student fell had no CCTV cameras. Only the 7th and 9th floors were covered by the CCTV footage.

According to the chief, family and friends described the victim as very competitive and was doing very well in academics. There are reports on social media that the victim was a scholar and got a low score in one of their midterm exams.

Liberes, however, dismissed rumors that the victim got a zero in an exam that might have triggered the incident. He appealed to the public to stop spreading misinformation as this is a sensitive matter.

The sister of the victim went on social media to express her frustration over reports she described as "fake news" about the victim. She clarified that her sibling got "dagko ug scores" [got good scores] and "very active" in class. She added that it pains her and her family because they know how her sibling worked hard to become a nurse. She appealed to the public to stop disrespecting the memory of her sibling.

As of press time, investigation is still underway.
