Signal No. 3 up in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, 4 other areas due to 'Bagyong Paeng'

MANILA, Philippines – 'Bagyong Paeng' (international name: Nalgae) maintains its strength while moving over the northern portion of Marinduque, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 11:00 am update on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

At 10:00 am today, the center of Severe Tropical Storm 'Paeng' was estimated based on all available data including those from Tagaytay Doppler Weather Radar in the vicinity of Mogpog, Marinduque.

'Bagyong Paeng' has maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 130 km/h, and central pressure of 985 hPa.

Strong winds extend outwards up to 560 km from the center.

TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK

Severe Tropical Storm 'Paeng' is forecast to track westward in the short term before moving west northwestward through Sunday across Luzon.

On the forecast track, the center of PAENG will make landfall in the vicinity of southeastern portion of Batangas before traversing the Cavite-Metro Manila-Bataan Peninsula area for the remainder of the day.

However, southward shift in the forecast track of 'Paeng' is possible in the succeeding bulletins.

Due to frictional effects, 'Paeng' may weaken into a tropical storm while moving over the Luzon landmass. However, it may re-intensify into a severe tropical storm once it reaches the West Philippine Sea.

'Paeng' is the Philippines’ 16th tropical cyclone for 2022. It developed into a tropical depression at 8 am on Wednesday, October 26.

On average, there are 20 tropical cyclones that could form or enter the PAR each year. Only half of those are projected to make landfall.
