MANILA, Philippines – Netizens are abuzz after a social media post revealed how a licensed engineer decided to apply as a helper due to "lack of job opportunities".
A social media post by Jensen Sunga earned mixed reactions from netizens when it became viral on Wednesday, October 19. In the post, Sunga shared the photo and ID of Virgilio Reyes Jr., a licensed electrical engineer and master electrician.
Sunga admitted how surprised he was to know that the licensed engineer is applying as a helper. According to Reyes' story, he and his group are from Bicol and reached Pampanga trying to look for a job. He tried to look for a job in Metro Manila but to no avail, so he was left with no choice but to apply as a helper in Pampanga.
Sunga appealed to the public to reach out to Reyes if they're in need of an engineer. “Hindi siya makapunta ng Manila para maka-apply dahil hindi niya kabisado kaya ginawang stepping stone ang Pampanga. Baka need niyo ng mga engineer, mga boss, para sa future niya.” he explained.
Reyes finished a Bachelor of Science Major in Electrical Engineering in 2019. He passed the April 2022 Registered Electrical Engineer Licensure Examination and Registered Master Electrician Licensure Examination.
Many netizens were impressed with Reyes' determination to succeed. Meanwhile, there are also those who felt bad for him and lamented how difficult it is to get hired in the Philippines.
Despite the mixed reactions, Reyes says he's not ashamed to get any type of job as long as it's decent. He said he will continue to face the challenges of his life.
He wrote, "Maraming Salamat po sa lahat ng tumulong at nag-aalok po sa akin ng trabaho. At sa mga nangbabash po sa akin, salamat pa din sa inyo at 'di ko po kayo masisi. Basta po marangal yung trabaho at wala naman tayong na-agrabyadong tao, laban lang palagi sa lahat ng hamon sa buhay."
