'Bagyong Neneng' PAGASA track

TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK

Typhoon 'Neneng' will continue moving westward or west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea until tomorrow early morning, then turn and move generally west southwestward or southwestward for the remainder of tomorrow through Wednesday morning.

On the forecast track, it may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this late afternoon or tonight.

'Neneng' has undergone extreme rapid intensification and reached typhoon category at 11:00 AM today. Further intensification is likely as this tropical cyclone moves over the West Philippine Sea.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS

Heavy Rainfall

Today: Moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the rest of Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Under these conditions, scattered to widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard as identified in hazard maps and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall.

The trough of 'Neneng' and the convergence of its circulation with the southwesterly winds induced by the tropical storm may also bring occasional rains today over the western portions of Visayas and MIMAROPA and the northern and western portions of Mindanao.

Severe Winds

During the passage of the typhoon, winds may reach storm-force strength in the western portion of Babuyan Islands, and winds of up to gale-force strength may prevail within any of the areas where Wind Signal No. 2 is hoisted. Strong winds (strong breeze to near gale strength) will be experienced within any of the areas where Wind Signal No. 1 is currently in effect.

The induced southwesterly winds may also bring occasional gusts reaching strong breeze to near gale strength today over most of Southern Luzon and Visayas and the eastern portions of Central Luzon, especially in coastal and mountainous/upland localities of these areas.

HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS

Under the influence of the surge of northeasterly surface wind flow, a marine gale warning remains in effect over the seaboards of Northern Luzon.

The aforementioned surge and the approaching tropical cyclone may also bring moderate to rough seas (2.0 to 3.5 m) over the eastern and western seaboards of Central Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon.

These conditions may be risky for those using small seacrafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions.

TROPICAL CYCLONES

'Neneng' is the Philippines’ 14th tropical cyclone for 2022. It entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 12 pm on Thursday, October 13.

On average, there are 20 tropical cyclones that could form or enter the PAR each year. Only half of those are projected to make landfall.
