MANILA, Philippines – Filipinas, the Philippine women’s football team won their first-ever international trophy in the 2022 AFF Women's Championship on Sunday night, July 17 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The Filipinas defeated Thailand, 3-0, in front of more than 8,000 Pinoy fans.
Jessika Cowart and Katrina Guillou delivered an early goals in the first half before Sarina Bolden capped off the match with another goal in the last stretch of the finals.
This was an epic rematch as Filipinas avenged their only loss in the 11-nation competition against the Thais on July 12.
The World Cup-bound Filipinas on Friday took down defending champs Vietnam, 4-0, in the semifinals of the tournament.
With the win over Vietnam, the hosts attained another historic milestone in becoming the first Philippine football squad to reach the final of a major international competition, a significant feat that was not lost on Filipinas coach Alen Stajcic.
“To make the first final in history (by a Philippine football team) is a massive occasion. It is a special moment,” Stajcic noted.
