MANILA, Philippines – TV host Wille Revillame explained the reasons why is leaving GMA Network and opened up his plans for the variety program ‘Wowowin’ and new TV network of former senator Manny Villar.
On February 5, GMA-7 confirmed Revillame's contract with the network will end on the 15th of the month and his show “Wowowin” will air until February 11.
GMA CEO, Atty. Felipe L. Gozon’s letter to the show’s host revealed that Willie is set to join the Advanced Media Broadcasting System (AMBS) network of Manny Villar. It can be recalled that AMBS was able to gain rights to broadcast using the old frequencies of ABS-CBN.
The letter stated, “You have had and continue to have long, close personal and business relationships with Sen. Villar over the years, much longer than your relationship with us at GMA-7. We appreciate that there comes a rare opportunity of a lifetime for one to choose a path that will determine one’s future career, like the one offered to you by Sen. Villar.”
Revillame spoke up and explained his decision to leave GMA during the last airing date of ‘Wowowin’ on Friday. According to him, he’s very grateful to GMA for the six years he has spent with them. Because of this gratitude, he couldn’t work with a rival network while signed under GMA.
He said. “Nagdesisyon na po ako (hindi nag-renew ng kontrata sa GMA). Ibig sabihin hindi ko kayang gawin na magtrabaho sa GMA samantalang gumagawa ako ng programa na makakatapat ng GMA. hindi ko po gagawin ‘yun, napakalaki ng utang na loob ko sa GMA.”
He denied that he didn’t receive a contract renewal offer from GMA. But he couldn’t sign it because he was considering his options.
He admitted spending lunch with Manny Villar and his daughter Rep. Camille Villar to discuss their options on their TV network.
The TV host shared that they're still no concrete plans because opening a TV network isn't easy.
He admitted, "Ang katotohanan po wala pang plano pa kasi una, hindi po ganu’n kadaling magbukas ng isang channel sa isang frequency. San ang studio nila? Saan magso-show, walang ilaw, walang ganito (complete package of studio). Hindi po ganu’n kadali, it will take time, ‘yan po ang totoo."
Revillame also denied that he is working at encouraging other celebrities to join him in Villar's network.
The host tearfully said goodbye to his audience on free TV. He said he will continue his show ‘Wowowin’ via livestreaming on YouTube and Facebook.
“Babalik ako. ‘Yung mga nawalan ng trabaho ibabalik ko kayo! See you soon. Itong programang Wowowin ipagdasal n’yong tuloy-tuloy tayo. GMA, I love you. See you," he said.
