MANILA, Philippines – Criminology Licensure Examination (CLE) 2021 topnotcher Brenyl Abilla plans to teach in a review center or in a university.
While many other criminology board exam passers hope to be policemen, Brenyl would rather impart his knowledge to others as a teacher.
The 23-year-old from Tagum City, Davao del Norte hoped he would get a perfect score in the 2021 Criminology board exam. He may not have gotten a perfect score but he topped the licensure exam.
Brenyl earned a rating of 90.75 percent in the tests. He was the topnotcher among the 11,610 passers who took the exam last December 2021.
Born to a housewife mother and a father who works as a welder, Bernyl is grateful for the blessing. He said his achievement is truly an answered prayer.
"Thankful ako kay God kasi binigay niya yung kahilingan ko," he said.
Bernyl added that his parents are also over the moon for his success. He offered his achievement to them and promised to give them a better life.
"Napakasaya nila nung malaman na top 1 ako kasi grabe yung sacrifices din nila sa akin kasi wala pa kasi akong trabaho," he said.
According to Bernyl, life wasn't easy while he was studying. Looking back, he wasn't an honor student when he was studying at University of Mindanao's Tagum Campus. As a working student, there were times when he had to skip classes because he had to work as a stall attendant.
While preparing for his board exam, he also tried to find a job as a call center agent and as a warehouse worker.
"Meron ding time na nag-stop ako kasi kailangan maghanap ng trabaho. Nag-apply ako pero hindi ako sinwerte," he said.
Now, he realized that he didn't get the job because he was meant for something else. Bernyl is excited to start this new chapter in his life, hopefully as a teacher to aspiring policemen. Congratulations!
