MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe Bahrain 2021 Manar Nadeem "Jess" Deyani has reacted to the hate comments she received online.
Jess Deyani is the first ever representative of Bahrain to the Miss Universe pageant. Unfortunately, she became the target of some of the 'toxic' beauty pageant fans who criticized how she looked.
On Instagram, Jess shared a photo of herself alongside Miss Universe Bolivia Nahemi Uequin, Miss Universe Chile Antonia Cristal Figueroa, and Miss Universe Czech Republic Karolina Kokesova. It was clear in the photo that Miss Bahrain was not yet prepared when it was taken. Jess' image didn't go unnoticed by some of the Pinoy pageant fans who were ready to hurl hateful comments.
Miss Bahrain included in her post some of the comments she received ridiculing her look.
Nagulat ako may sash."
The comments didn't sit too well with Jess and she calmly responded to those who compared her with the other pageant contestants.
While she didn't particularly point out that 'bullies' were Filipinos, it was clear that the hate comments were written in Filipino language. She also addressed the haters as "Kabayans", implying that it is addressed to Filipinos.
Miss Bahrain wrote, “I see so many bullies from these pictures. I am here to have a representation for all women regardless of the shape, size, religion or color.
"For the people who spread hate on social media—I have nothing but love for all of you."
"I hope that you find peace in your heart as me and my co-sisters unite to break the world's stereotypes of beauty. [praying hands emoji]”
Jess also thanked those who defended her and sent her positive messages to lift her up. She continued, "On a positive note—I wanna thank everyone who said inspirational things and for the kind messages! Love you, kabayans! Love, Your Miss Universe Bahrain Manar 'Jess' Deyani [crown emoji]"
She also admitted she wasn't ready when the photo was taken.
Meanwhile, Miss Bahrain gained applause when she wore a full dress during the swimwear competition of the Miss Universe preliminaries. Coming from a highly conservative country, Miss Bahrain followed their tradition not to show too much skin.
Miss Bahrain will compete against Miss Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez and other beauties all over the world on the coronation night. It will be on Sunday, December 12, 2021 (December 13 Philippine time).
