MANILA, Philippines – Janella Salvador will portray the iconic villain Valentina in the upcoming "Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series", ABS-CBN announced on Friday, November 19.
Since the TV series was announced, several names have been rumored to be attached or considered for the role of Valentina. After a long time of speculation, Janella has finally been introduced to star as the serpent queen, Valentina during the livestream of ABS-CBN on Youtube and Facebook page.
In the series, Valentina is a lawyer and a vlogger who is cursed to have a head full of snakes instead of hair. She is the archenemy of Darna, who is played by Jane De Leon.
Among the many actresses who auditioned for the role, Janella was handpicked by the series director, acclaimed filmmaker Chito S. Roño himself.
Many are anticipating this role for Janella after her long hiatus from showbiz when she was pregnant. Her last TV series was with Maja Salvador on “The Killer Bride." Her acting was highly praised as she was named the Princess of Philippine Television in the 2020 Box Office Entertainment Awards.
Janella admitted how blessed she feels to get the role, given that a lot of actresses auditioned for Valentina.
The Kapamilya actress will soon be joining the rest of the "Darna" stars who are already filming at the ABS-CBN's sound stages in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
She will now be among the big names of actresses who played the iconic role of Valentina such as Cristina Aragon, Celia Rodriguez, Pilar Pilapil, Pilita Corrales, Iwa Motto and Alessandra de Rossi.
Earlier, the other cast members of Darna were announced, including Iza Calzado who will play the original Darna and Narda’s mother, Zaijan Jaranilla as Narda’s brother Ding, and Joshua Garcia as Narda’s romantic interest Brian.
