MANILA, Philippines – The Office of the City Mayor of Davao hereby informs the public that Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio tested positive for COVID-19 tonight, October 9.
The daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte has "mild symptoms and is in isolation caring for other family members who need medical attention in Davao City," the statement reads.
The family requests for complete privacy at this time and respectfully urge the public to refrain from sending tokens for well wishes.
Mayor Duterte's office advised those who came in CLOSE contact with her in the last 14 days to self-monitor for symptoms and get reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test five to seven days from their contact with her.
On October 2, she filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for a 3rd consecutive and final term as local chief executive.
Meanwhile, Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, who filed his candidacy for president under PDP-Laban for the 2022 elections, is hoping for Mayor Duterte to change her mind to run in his stead for the presidential race.
“Eh di mas maganda? But this is a party decision, this is not my personal decision. Kasi kung ako lang ang masusunod, kung papatakbuhin nila ako, tatakbo pa rin ako," he said.
