MANILA, Philippines – Kim Atienza is now a Kapuso following the announcement on 24 Oras, today, October 4.
After weeks of speculation online, Kuya Kim has left ABS-CBN's TV Patrol to join its rival news show, 24 Oras. The 54-year-old TV personality left ABS-CBN which has been his home network for over 17 years.
On his first appearance on 24 Oras, Kuya Kim was welcomed by warm greetings by his fellow Kapuso including GMA CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon, and other executives.
GMA's beloved resident meteorologist Nathaniel "Mang Tani" Cruz also sent a message to Kuya Kim greeting him as part of the show. "Hi, pwede na kitang tawagin ngayong Kapusong Kuya Kim. [Hi, now I can call you Kapusong Kuya Kim.] Welcome," he said.
"Natatandaan mo ba 'yung matagal na matagal na panahon na magsisimula ka sa bagong trabaho mo no'n at ako naman ay nasa PAGASA? Matagal na 'yon pero ngayon, magkakasama na tayong dalawa."
"Definitely, you will enjoy itong Kapuso network. Kapusong Kuya Kim, welcome!" he said.
Earlier, many netizens were worried that Kuya Kim would replace Mang Tani on the 24 Oras' weather forecast segment. Mang Tani is now residing in Australia with his family but still does remote work for GMA.
Kuya Kim clarified that he will not stand as Mang Tani's replacement but as his support. He said, "There’s no truth to rumors that I’ll be replacing Mang Tani in the program’s weather portion. On the other hand, I will be there to support him."
According to Kuya Kim, he feels grateful to be given the opportunity that it feels like a dream. He said, “[The] feeling of being a Kapuso and being called a Kapuso is.. Para akong nananginip eh because hindi ako sanay."
“But I'm excited because of the window of opportunity you guys opened for me. At this point in our life when there's COVID and the opportunities are really scarce, and then all of a sudden this door opens and you welcome me this way and I just feel so thankful. I'm so full of gratitude. Maraming-maraming salamat,” he added.
Aside from a segment on 24 Oras, Kuya Kim will be part of the daily morning show, Mars Pa More, and GTV's latest news magazine program titled "Dapat Alam Mo!" with Kapuso artist Patricia Tumulak and veteran broadcast journalist Emil Sumangil.
