MANILA, Philippines – A woman pretending to be a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of the Philippines Manila managed to become a guest speaker in a virtual graduation ceremony in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
The woman identified as Kathleen Joy Ravelo Poblete, who was claiming to be a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in UP Manila, served as the guest speaker during the virtual graduation ceremony of Ramona S. Tirona Memorial School in Dasmariñas, Cavite last July 15.
Poblete also released fake documents claiming that she was a dean’s lister and a recipient of the Juris Doctor’s award and the Best in Research award. Moreover, Poblete also asserted that she is currently enrolled at the UP Manila College of Law.
The UP Manila Department of Social Sciences categorically denied affiliations with Poblete through a statement it released on social media.
“The Office of the University Registrar has no records of Ms. Poblete ever attending the University. There has only been one Summa Cum Laude from the UP Manila Political Science Program- Ms. Georgina Mia B. Gato- who graduated in 2019. We do not have any Juris Doctor’s award or Best in Research award. There is also no College of Law in UP Manila,” UP Manila’s Department of Social Sciences stated.

Poblete allegedly steals identity to date men
Shortly after Poblete went viral on social media, netizen Lucio Sans said that Poblete also used his sister’s identity to date men. Although they have gathered “irrefutable evidence” against Poblete and have reported the matter to the local government unit (LGU) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), no action was taken.
According to Sans, it was in 2019 when a man went to their house to look for his sister whom he claimed he was dating. Poblete, who only communicated with the man through phone, allegedly used his sister’s identity and gave their home address.
“He showed us the number that he was talking to, he has never seen her in real life. They just talk on the phone. We've looked the number up on the internet and found her name along with it on gmail, the name affiliated with the number was "Kathleen Joy Poblete”,” Sans wrote in his post.
Sans’ family also learned that Poblete victimized multiple men using his sister’s identity.
