MANILA, Philippines – With the recent increase of COVID-19 infections among children in the Philippines, a mother who recently lost her healthy son to the coronavirus disease has decided to share their family’s horrifying experience.
Roxy Sibug, a mother from Tarlac, recounted the ordeal their family went through when her healthy son contracted COVID-19 virus.
“Maging lesson sana ito sa lahat ng magulang..WAG BALEWALAIN ANG COVID DAHIL TOTOONG TOTOO SIYA!!! My son is completely healthy..hindi nagkakasakit..pero sa isang iglap nawala siya samin,” Sibug wrote in her Facebook post.
According to Sibug, her son was subjected to swab test after getting a fever on July 31. Although the young boy tested positive for COVID-19, his fever was gone after two days of taking medicine and vitamins.
However, Sibug started noticing that her son was getting weak and his eyes were swelling. This prompted their family to bring the young boy to the hospital for further tests.
The young boy was sent home since his lab test results were normal but had to be taken to the hospital again the next day since he was becoming weaker.

After conducting several tests on Sibug’s son, it was discovered that the young boy’s heart was swelling brought about by the COVID-19 infection. Sibug’s son was placed in an intensive care unit (ICU) for close monitoring.
Unfortunately, the young boy did not last more than 24 hours in the ICU and succumbed to the coronavirus disease.
In a separate post, Sibug urged the public to be more vigilant about the coronavirus disease, particularly the Delta variant, as more and more children are getting hospitalized because of COVID-19.
“Magugulat ka nalang kung gano kadaming bata ang nasa icu dahil sa covid variant nato! naranasan ng anak ko ang ma intubate.nakakagulat at di ako makapaniwala sa mga nangyari sa anak ko.diko matanggap na dinanas to ng anak ko.kaya maniwala kayooo!!mag ingat kayo hanggat may pagkakataon pa.masakit para sakin ang maging example ang anak ko…napakasakit,” Sibug warned.
The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) recorded an increase in the cases of COVID-19 infections among children in the recent weeks with the presence of the highly contagious and transmissible Delta variant.
