MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo was emotional as she apologized to the Filipino pageant fans.
A tearful Rabiya faced her fans via an Instagram shortly after the national costume competition of the 69th Miss Universe pageant on Friday, May 14 (Manila time).
When photos of her Philippine-inspired national costume became viral, many fans were quick to point out how there were missing pieces on the look. Earlier, the Instagram account of @pageanthology101, revealed what could have been the overall presentation of Philippine's national costume. Aside from the huge blue and red-colored wings, Rabiya was expected to wear a stunning sun-inspired headpiece made by Manny Halasan. The train of the gown designed by Rocky Gathercole was also supposed to be longer than what Rabiya actually wore on stage.
Rabiya felt she disappointed many Pinoy fans with her national costume performance. She revealed the minor accidents she went through and how much she worked hard to execute her national costume well.

She said, "Sabi ko I just wanna do a quick live to tell you guys na I'm so sorry kung na-disappoint man kayo sa akin but I know na I did my best.
"I even cut my finger earlier and yung stockings ko, puno na rin siya ng dugo but I kept fighting kahit wala nang oras. I didn't have time to retouch my hair, to retouch my makeup."
"Like, I was there. I was running for pins, I was running for scissors, for everything, just to be able to execute, you know, the costume really well."
Rabiya later on expressed her appreciation to all those who gave her support and motivated her to continue fighting in the pageant. She also admitted how she felt good while on stage for the national costume competition.
"Kaya maraming maraming salamat talaga guys, ha. I think, in myself kanina, I felt really great. Feeling ko nung naglalakad ako, I was so beautiful. Nakita ko yung cheer ng mga judges, nakita ko yung sigawan ng mga Pilipino kaya nagpapasalamat talaga ako sa suporta."
"Thank you so much guys and tomorrow may competition pa tayo and again, malaking laban ulit kaya ipagdasal niyo sana kaming lahat mga girls to execute yung pinaka-best performance na kaya namin."
She also assured everyone that she will do her best and hopes they will also be proud of her.
"Because our girl really is to make our country proud. Kaya sana, sana, sana maging proud din kayo sa akin kasi it's never easy pero kinakaya ko para sa inyong lahat. Again, maraming salamat," Rabiya said.
Meanwhile, Miss Universe Philippines organization national head Shamcey Supsup explained the missing pieces on Rabiya's final national costume look. She said that they wanted to make Rabiya feel comfortable while on the catwalk.
Shamcey explained, "I'm pretty sure alam niyo naman na I brought the headpiece for Rabiya but unfortunately it was... she couldn't [wear it]. Nahuhulog," she explained.
"It was hard for her to wear it, so we decided na kung saan siya mas komportable. Mabigat na rin kasi 'yung wings niya in the first place."
"We're so sad na hindi nasuot but still, Rabiya was able to give us a powerful performance," she added.
The coronation night will be on May 16 (May 17 Manila time) and will be aired via ABS-CBN's A2Z channel.
