MANILA, Philippines – At least 54 graduates of the Philippine Science High School System (PSHS) received admission offers and scholarship grants from several prestigious universities abroad.
Those Pisay scholars are set to fulfill their dreams after they were accepted in several esteemed international universities in Asia, America and Europe.
In a series of Facebook posts, PSHS proudly announced the achievements of their top graduates.
Among those named is Nathan Ariston of the Central Mindanao Campus who was given a full scholarship grant by Yale University in US to accommodate his plans to major in physics. Aside from Yale, he was offered in three more schools, the University of California-Irvine, the Georgia Institute of Technology and Singapore's Nanyang Technological University.
A son of a farmer and a teacher, Nathan sees the opportunity as a way to give back to the Philippines. He is determined to serve the people of Mindanao with the education grant he was given.
“The best way that I could give back to our country is through offering my soon-to-be expertise in STEM that I could acquire through this education grant,” Nathan said.
“(I will) serve in whatever way I can the people around, specifically in Maguindanao and the other Muslim Mindanao areas,” he added.
Edrian Liao of the Cagayan Valley Campus was given an offer by Duke University in the USA for BS Mechanical Engineering, Minor in Computer Science. He is the first Filipino to become a recipient of the Karsh International Scholarship Program. Under the grant, Edrian will be provided with full tuition, room and board, and other mandatory fees.
Aside from Duke, Edrian was also offered a full scholarship grant from Jacobs University in Germany for BS Physics.
"It still feels surreal to be awarded a highly selective and prestigious scholarship. Never have I thought that a probinsyano like me would get chosen,” he told PSHS.
Maria Charisma Estrella of Cavite, has also been offered admission to New York University (NYU), one the largest and most competitive universities in the US. Maria Charisma's admission comes with a scholarship grant for a dual degree program for BS Biology and BS Biomolecular Engineering. She also got into Yale-NUS College in Singapore with an inclined interest toward molecular, cellular, and developmental biology.
Maria Charisma encouraged other students to continue pursuing their education amid the challenges of distance learning due to the pandemic.
“To all students who are having a hard time at school or for those who are stressed, tired, burned out, and overall struggling with online class, don’t worry because you’re not alone,” she said.
Dominic R. Navarro of Ilocos Region Campus was offered a spot at Jacobs University in Germany with a scholarship grant for BS Mathematics.
He also received two more offers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a direct admission to the BBA Actuarial Science program of the Wisconsin School of Business. Bentley University also offered him a Provost Scholarship for BS Actuarial Science.
