MANILA, Philippines – Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died at age 99.
The sad news was confirmed in a statement from the Buckingham Palace on Friday, April 9.
"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."
Prince Philip and the Queen had four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.
The longest-serving consort of any British monarch was born into the Greek and Danish royal families.
He retired from his royal duties on August 2, 2017 after 65 years of supporting the queen.
