She is not related to the beggar but a woman in Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City helped him out, anyway. She sang to help the random beggar get more money from passersby – and the kind gesture would quickly go viral.
Her shot to internet fame began when she was spotted by Ruel Quinones. According to Ruel, he had just alighted from a taxi to buy some medicines at a drugstore when he heard the woman singing.
Being familiar with the area, Ruel was surprised to hear a woman’s voice because the spot was usually occupied by a male beggar who plays the guitar and sings, too. Curious and also drawn by the woman’s voice, Ruel went closer and started taking some videos of the performance.
After the woman completed the song, the curious Ruel asked whether she was related to the beggar and told her that he knew the guy was always alone when he’s busking there. The woman, later identified as Regine Carpio, admitted that she is not related to the guitarist and doesn’t really know him but she’s doing this to help him attract more passersby who will, hopefully, give him more money.
With her soulful rendition of “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” and other songs, Regine was indeed able to help the blind guitarist attract people like Ruel to give him more cash.
Many netizens expressed admiration, saying that Regine does not only have a golden voice but also a golden heart. Someone later commented on the viral post, saying that she’s actually a member of the Acdo Oasis of Love Community and a trusted also in Singers for Christ Choir at the Metropolitan Cathedral.
“You have a golden voice with a golden heart, sharing your talent to help others. God bless you, Regine,” a netizen commented.
