MANILA, Philippines – A 72-year-old pianist recently went viral after he held a nearly 2-hour online concert to raise some money for his maintenance medicines.
Vidalito Infante, fondly known as “Lolo Bong”, serenaded his online fans with the performance that included inspirational pieces, traditional kundiman, and OPM hits to raise money for his maintenance medicines. Thanks to his dedicated fans and loyal supporters, Lolo Bong was able to buy some much-needed supplies.
A talented pianist, Lolo Bong used to play the piano at various malls, including Robinsons Magnolia, Rockwell, and Glorietta. His impressive skills in playing the piano despite his advanced age has amazed a lot of netizens. Many enjoyed listening to him play at these malls.
But the COVID-19 pandemic left him jobless because senior citizens are not allowed to leave their homes and go to public places like the mall. Since his job used to be in these malls, he lost his source of income.
Rendered jobless by the pandemic, Lolo Bong needed help in buying his maintenance medicines. After learning about Lolo Bong’s predicament, his family friend and student Raymund Javier helped set up the online concert at the pianist’s home in Balic-Balic, Sampaloc in Manila.
The online concert was a huge success. It received over 30,000 reactions, more than 20,000 shares, and over 500,000 views on Facebook. Many people sent him donations, with many also promising to donate to his future online concerts. One of these is already scheduled for Easter Sunday, April 4.
