MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo reacted to poll results showing Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on top of possible presidentiables for the 2022 elections.
According to Robredo, we should try to uncover why Filipinos are attracted to the kind of leadership offered by the Dutertes. She added that a study on the preference of Filipinos on direction must be looked into.
Kailangan natin ‘yun harapin," she said.
In December 2020, a Pulse Asia national survey showed that 26 percent of adult Filipinos would support Sara's presidential bid. The mayor and even her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, have been consistent in saying that Sara isn't interested in seeking a national seat.
The Vice President clarified that the survey results should not be dismissed as false or fake. Instead, it should be studied in a context on what a Filipino looks for in a leader.
The vice president said the government should also be sensitive and take into account the public’s shift in preference.
“Parang pa minsan there are many days na gigising ka parang iisipin mo parang ibang iba na ‘yung Pilipino, ibang iba na ‘yung Pilipinas. Pero kailangan natin tanungin yung sarili natin bakit,” Robredo said.
In the end, the Vice President stressed how important it is to understand the messages behind the survey results. By not dismissing it, officials would be able to understand what are the needs of the Filipino public.
“So sa akin I think maraming mensahe.
