MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) reported 7,103 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, March 19, the highest number of cases since the start of the pandemic in the same period last year.
This raises the country's total infections to 648,066 with the active cases at 73,264 or 11.3% of the total.

Meanwhile, DOH said 13 died due to COVID-19 pushing the death toll to 12,900.
Recoveries increased by 390 to 561,902.
The health department also posted positivity rate of 15% based on March 18, highest since April last year.
The surge of infections came as the country rolled out vaccination program, prioritizing medical frontliners.
