House Deputy Speaker Eric Martinez confirmed that several members of the President's political party are already eyeing the move. He added that Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, the PDP-Laban vice-chairman, “is going around the country consulting with the PDP members” regarding the resolution.

“Starting nga dito sa Metro Manila, noong Monday, pinatawag ‘yung mga PDP partymates ng Pangulo noong Monday and some malalapit dito na lugar. I think may Laguna pa ako na nakita doon and Bulacan,” he revealed.

According to Martinez, the resolution was also a move to renew their loyalty to the President and their commitment to the administration's COVID-19 efforts. He revealed that the resolution came to mind because of Duterte's high approval rate.

"At the end of the meeting, medyo nabanggit na, saan patungo ang PDP come 2022? And someone floated that idea na why not—kasi wala pang linaw kung sino ang mga presidentiables,” Martinez said.

“May nag-float lang ng idea. Since the President is the chairman of the PDP party, has the highest approval rating—never before seen in the history of our country—someone floated the idea, why not i-start muna with convincing the President to run for Vice President,” he added.

Go-Duterte tandem?

Meanwhile, the latest pre-election survey conducted by private polling firm Pulse Asia showed that the tandem to beat this coming 2022 was Senator Bong Go and President Rodrigo Duterte, as president and vice president respectively.

In Pulse Asia's February 10 to 19 poll, Go-Duterte earned the highest voter preference with 32 percent votes from respondents nationwide.

The pair received the highest score in Mindanao (62 percent), followed by the Visayas (39 percent), Metro Manila (21 percent), and Balance Luzon (18 percent).
