MANILA, Philippines – A powerful magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck off Japan's Fukushima Prefecture late Saturday, February 13.
The exact time of occurence was logged at 11:08 p.m. local time with epicenter of the earthquake at a depth of 60 kilometers, Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
The earthquake left nearly a million households without power across the Fukushima region and forced the closure of roads and suspension of train services.
Meanwhile, residents of the greater Tokyo area also felt the quake for about 30 seconds.
No tsunami warning has been issued, Japanese authorities said.
The quake reminds of more powerful 8.9-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan in 2011, killing more than 16,000 people.
