MANILA, Philippines – A vendor from Binangonan, Rizal has been hailed as a hero after he saved a tricycle from burning and stopped the fire from creating more havoc.
Larry Lasac, a 54-year-old buko vendor, earned the praise of netizens when he was seen on a video dousing a burning tricycle with buko juice. According to Lasac, he was vending his buko juice along the roadside of Manila East Road, when a burning tricycle stopped near him. Without hesitation, Lasac threw his entire container of buko juice to stop the fire.
He recalled,"Nakita kong nahihirapan ang tricycle driver na patayin ang apoy kaya naman naisipan kong ibuhos sa nag-aapoy na tricycle ang paninda kong buko juice."
The vendor admitted he would have earned P500 for the buko juice but he still didn't hesitate to throw it all away to help the tricycle driver. Even more impressive, Lasac even threw away another container of mineral water when he saw that the buko juice wasn't enough to extinguish the fire.
Lasac downplayed his good deed and said anyone would have done the same. He said, "Sa tingin ko po, gagawin din naman yun ng ibang tao kung sila man ang makaka-enkwentro ng ganung sitwasyon."
Since the pandemic, Lasac has been selling buko juice to earn a living. He used to earn P800-1,000 a day selling french fries in a school but due to the lockdown, he had to change his goods.
Because of his heroic act, Binangonan Mayor Cesar Ynares awarded Lasac with a certificate of recognition by the local government. The mayor also promised to help him find a job.
