MANILA, Philippines – Christine Dacera, 23, had asked permission from her mother in General Santos City, Sharon Dacera, to attend a party with fellow flight attendants at City Garden Hotel in Makati City on New Year’s Eve. She was still able to video call with her family shortly after midnight, but they were shocked to hear the news of her death just 12 hours later.
“‘Sinong kasama mo, ‘nak?’ ‘Siyempre, ‘yung mga friends ko po rin na flight attendant.’ Sabi ko sino, so ‘yun pinakita niya sa’kin mga flight attendants. So, in short, since I really trust my daughter, [sabi] ko ‘Basta enjoy ka ‘te ha, enjoy enjoy lang ‘nak,’” mom Sharon recalled.
“Wala akong any presumption na something will happen to my daughter, because siyempre ang kasama niya, mga kasamahan niya ring flight attendant.”
Christine and her friends, whom police identified as a mix of gays and bisexual men, had a good time at their party. CCTV footage at the hotel indicated that the partygoers were drunk when they checked in at the hotel around 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.
According to the initial police report, Christine checked in with friends Rommel Galida, Gregorio de Guzman and John dela Serna but there were a total of 11 guys in their group. All of them are now considered as persons of interest in the case.

In a statement to the police, Galida said that he found Christine in the bathroom at around 10AM. Thinking that she was sleeping, he even covered her with a blanket and went back to sleep. He was shocked to find his friend dead when he woke up again several hours later.
They brought her to the hotel clinic but she was rushed to Makati Medical Center where she was declared dead. The hospital reported Christine’s death to the police at around 5PM.
Foul play in flight attendant’s death
Although she was declared dead on arrival due to ruptured aortic aneurysm, there were indications of foul play in her death, said Makati police chief Police Colonel Harold Depositar.
“Meron siyang mga pasa, meron siyang mga contusions sa both knees and then meron siyang abrasions… pero isa lang ‘yun na mahaba. Meron definitely sexual contact,” the police chief explained.
There were plenty of liquor bottles in the room, but police are looking at angle that Christine might have been drugged before she was raped.
“Nag-invite sila ng friends of friends, something like that, ‘no, and I think most if not all are gays also, bisexual, and then they had a party starting mga 10 or 11:30. It continues until the following morning,” the police chief said.
“May binitawang salita si Christine na tinanong itong kaibigan niya, sabi niya, ‘Parang may nilagay si name doon sa drinks ko kasi nag-iba ‘yung pakiramdam ko.’”
He also added that based on the CCTV footage, Christine and one of the guys transferred to another hotel room. It was only the following morning that she was brought back to the original party room.
The grieving family is seeking justice over the alleged rape-slay, with mom Sharon sending an angry message at the perpetrators.
“Ang gusto lang naman sana ni Christine is magsaya no’ng yearend party na ‘yun. Kung anumang kababuyan ginawa niyo sa anak ko, hindi deserve ni Christine ‘yun… Wag niyo gawing baboy ang anak ko, tao ang anak ko,” she said.
