The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has approved the request of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to proceed with the scheduled board exams from January to March 2021.
“The request of the Professional Regulation Commission to conduct and administer the licensure examinations for professionals scheduled for January to March 2021 was approved,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
Roque added that the decision of the IATF-EID was contained in Resolution 95.
Earlier, PRC Commissioner Yolanda Reyes said they sought guidance from the IATF especially for licensure exam for teachers (LET) with more than 170,000 examinees expected to take in March 2021. PRC proposed to divide takers into three batches due to social distancing and other health protocols.

Asked about the parameters in cancelling board exams, Reyes said decision depends on the request of the deans and associations.
"When there is no request [cancellation of licensure exam], tuloy na tuloy po ang exam," Reyes said.
PRC already pushed through the medical technogist (Medtech) board exam on January 21 and 22. This is for the approved examinees of March and August 2020 MTLE only.

Sanitary Engineers board exam is scheduled on January 25 - 27. Meanwhile, the Architect board exam was moved to June 2021 as announced early this month.
In February, the PRC scheduled licensure examinations for veterinarians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, real estate consultants, geologists, master plumbers, psychologists, mechanical engineers (ME), and certified plant mechanics (CPM).
NOTE: PRC Commissioner Yolanda Reyes said there is a request to postpone Psychology board exam. However, PRC is yet to release official announcement on the cancellation of exams.

Aside from LET, PRC is set to hold licensure examinations for foreign medical professionals, physicians (PLE), respiratory therapists, medical technologists, optometrists, ocular pharmacologists in March.

Most of the PRC board exams in 2020 were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in line with the mandate of the government to prohibit mass gatherings that may spread coronavirus infections.
In October, PRC said they are preparing for technology-based examination or online/computerized board exams.
“We might be able to start with the smaller boards, which will be more manageable,” PRC Chairman Teofilo Pilando Jr. said during the Senate hearing.
