MANILA, Philippines – Even without Ray Parks Jr. on the floor, TNT relied on Troy Rosario and Jayson Castro to record their first PBA Philippine Cup Finals series win, 88-67 versus crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Angeles University Foundation in Angeles City, Pampanga.
Ginebra started Game 3 hot with Stanley Pringle leading his team as usual. Pringle was backed up by veterans Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio who were both cold in the previous game despite the win.
TNT on the other hand missed the services of Bobby Ray Parks Jr. for the second straight time who’s nursing a calf injury and had been trailing Ginebra right from the start.
LA Tenorio’s three pointers at the opener put Ginebra on top, 26-21.
Tropang Giga’s combo guards Roger Ray Pogoy and Simon Enciso tried to score from the three point territory to catch up with the Kings. Instantly, Pogoy and Enciso’s outside plays paid off and TNT took over Ginebra at the end of the 2nd quarter, 44-34.
Fresh from the dugout and with momentum on their side, Tropang Giga widened the gap as soon as the 3rd period commenced.
Troy Rosario who was a sleeper in the first 2 games finally became more significant tonight as he provided more muscle underneath the basket.
Ginebra had a terrific scoring run mid of the third. The Gin Kings managed to cut the lead to just 2 but TNT fought back hard and brought their lead back to 10, 66-56.
TNT focused heavily on its defense in the 4th quarter as Tropang Giga limited Ginebra to just 5 points with 4 minutes left in the final canto.
Aside from a clamping defense on LA Tenorio, Jayson Castro played like it’s a win-or-go-home together with 4 other TNT players who are all in double-figures to register their first win of the series 88-67.
Game 4 will be on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 6 pm.
