MANILA, Philippines – Ginebra took advantage of Bobby Ray Parks Jr.’s absence to write another win versus TNT, 92-90 and made it 2-0 series lead on Wednesday, December 2, in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup Finals at the Angeles University Foundation in Angeles City, Pampanga.
Prior to the game, TNT Tropang Giga listed its ace gunner Bobby Ray Parks Jr. as doubtful in Game 2 due to a calf injury that he sustained in the previous game.
Ginebra’s Stanley Pringle didn’t hesitate to capitalize on Parks Jr.'s absence and led the way for his team with 12 points and 21-17 advantage at the end of the opening salvo.
Without its leading scorer, TNT went to its trio guard Jayson Castro, Roger Ray Pogoy and Simon Enciso to provide some offensive spark.
Aside from significant point-contributions, Tropang Giga backcourt personnels were able to limit Stanley Pringle to just a point in the 2nd period that resulted in a lead change, 40-36 in favor of TNT.
No sign of Ray Ray Parks Jr. in the 3rd quarter. Nevertheless, TNT Tropang Giga remained atop Ginebra as Roger Pogoy took charge of the scoring chores. Pogoy hit the 20-point mark with 10 more minutes left in the third.
Coming from a cold 2nd quarter, Stanley Pringle showed off and doubled his 1st half output to help Ginebra rally behind TNT.
TNT led by as much as 15 points but Ginebra’s resiliency in the penultimate quarter paid off as the Kings found themselves trailing Tropang Giga by just a single shot, 68-70.
The duel between Pringle and Pogoy continued in the final quarter as both snipers tallied 30+ points apiece.
Down to the 2-minute warning, both squads were in a deadlock and had a hard time breaking it until Semis Game 5 hero Scottie Thompson drained a three pointer for the lead.
Surprisingly, Thompson’s clutch shot at the 30th second was his first and only 3 points of the game but more than enough for Ginebra to salvage another win.
LA Tenorio placed the icing on the cake with a few foul shots to wrap up Game 2 with a 92-90 win and a 2-0 series lead.
Game 3 will be on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 6 pm.
