MANILA, Philippines – Four teens have been arrested on Sunday, November 8, after they stole mobile phone of Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.
According to a police report from the Ermita Police Station, two suspects [names withheld] were arrested after a follow-up operation along Elisondo Street in Quiapo, Manila on Sunday. The two suspects were aged 17 and 18.
By Monday morning, all four suspects were already in jail. The authorities have yet to reveal the names of the other two suspects but shared that the first one is an 18-year-old construction worker while the other is a student aged 17. They are facing charges of robbery snatching.
Sec. Bello's mobile phone was recovered after the suspects sold it for P25,000. Police also arrested the individual who bought the stolen phone for violating the anti-fencing law. The suspect, who is into buy-and-sell, also sold the phone for P34,000.
Last November 6, Bello's mobile phone was snatched while inside his car along the vicinity of the Manila City Hall and Mehan Garden on Friday. It was said that Bello opened his car window while holding his iPhone 11. The four teens quickly snatched the phone from the labor secretary's hand.
Manila Police Department Director P/Brig. General Rolando Miranda immediately ordered policemen to search for the suspects around the area. Aside from the MPD, the Lawton Police Community Precinct under P/Captain Virgilio Platon also participated in the operation.
