In reference to DepEd Memorandum OUCI-2020-307, DepEd extends Quarter 1 until December 12.
DepEd said the week of December 14-19, 2020 will be devoted to In-Service Training (INSET) which may include Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs)-based Quarter 2 planning for Distance Learning Delivery Modalities (DLDM).
Christmas holiday break will be from December 19, 2020 to January 3, 2021. Resumption of classes is on January 4, 2021.
"Because of some key challenges noted, there is a need to recalibrate the strategy of assigning teaching responsibilities of teachers and learning activities to the learners with the assistance of their parents," DepEd said.
On October 2, DepEd announced some amendments to DO 007 Series 2020 "School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2020-2021".
As stated, the pre-opening activities devoted to the attainment of learning objectives for the school year shall be counted as class days.
Because of the compressed school year, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones is authorizing the holding of Saturday classes, through the conduct of distance learning activities to be undertaken by the learners, pursuant to Republic Act No. 7797 otherwise known as "An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More Than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days", as amended.
Should religious considerations prohibit these Saturday activities, they shall be undertaken on Sundays. In all, the total class days in 2020-2021 school calendar will be 205 days.
