MANILA, Philippines –
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo couldn't help but be emotional as controversy stirs after she won the title.
The newly crowned beauty queen fought back tears as she admitted feeling hurt over the shade and accusations being hurled over her winning. She addressed the issue and said that many didn't expect her to win.
"To be honest po, maybe I wasn’t a frontrunner so people didn’t expect me to win and now that I have the crown... I’m sorry I’m being emotional," she said.
Rabiya said she felt there were those who are putting down her capabilities but she knows she did her best.
"They’re questioning my capability as a person, as a candidate… but I know that I did everything and anything that I could during that night and ibinigay ko talaga," she said.
Rabiya denied knowing the question beforehand and said she only did her best during the Q&A portion.
“And yung mga nagsasabi na the question was given to me that’s why I answered that way, it wasn’t given po sa akin. I did everything that I could because I want to make Iloilo City proud,” she stated.

The Ilongga beauty queen said despite being hurt, she would rather take the high road and be understanding.
“Of course it was painful because there are things you can settle by talking with each other. At the end of the day, this is a competition and being the bigger person in the picture, I need to understand where they are coming from,” she stated.
Just hours after Rabiya was crowned as the Miss Universe Philippines 2020, Miss Taguig Sandra Lemonon dropped cryptic posts on Instagram that seems to allude to the pageant. She said that karma will soon happen and that they deserve justice. She also hinted that "real queens play fair and don't cheat."
