MANILA, Philippines – Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, classes are done online across many schools to help prevent the rapid spread of the deadly virus.
Many protested the online classes due to a number of problems or challenges they face, such as buying gadgets needed to attend online school. But others are happy as this worked in their favor, allowing them to still do other things or stay at home and be more productive while still being able to go to school.
A working student is among those who found favor in online classes as such arrangement allowed her to work while also studying, quite literally.
Jan Dominique Agravante is a graduating student taking up Business Administration, major in Marketing at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina. In the past, she had to juggle time for work and time for school, factoring in the travel time needed so she wouldn’t be late at work or in school.
But now that online school is being implemented, she is able to attend her classes even while she is on duty. During breaks at work, this hardworking student would use her spare time to attend online school.
Agravante is already such a pro on juggling work with school as she has been a working student for 4 years. But her photos recently went viral, with people admiring her dedication to her classes while also supporting herself by working at Jollibee.
“Walang nakakapagod sa pagtupad ng pangarap,” Agravante said. “Sa lahat ng gagawin natin, mapa-online class man iyan, trabaho, or sa bahay lang, kailangan nating isapuso lahat ng gagawin. Be productive everyday kahit na may pandemic po tayong nararanasan.”
Many netizens expressed admiration over her determination, saying that they are happy she gets to relax a bit instead of having to rush at all times just to reach her work and school on time.
“And imagine mo sacrifice nyan kung walang pandemiya.Pasok trabaho, karipas ng takbo papuntang school, balik sa trabaho, review hanggang madaling araw, gising ng maaga papasok sa trabaho, papasok sa school. #proudworkingstudent,” one netizen pointed out.
“Tapos gusto nyo Academic freeze? Gusto nyong mahinto pa sa pag aaral yung mga katulad nyang nagsusumikap. Konting hirap, ayawan na agad solusyon nyo. Eh mga nasa bahay lang naman kayo/mga anak nyo,” another commented.
