MANILA, Philippines – A civil engineering graduate recently went viral after sharing the impressive Japanese-style room makeover he did at his own bedroom. ‘Before’ and ‘after’ photos truly impressed netizens, with many commenting that they are surely going to hire him if they had the money to do a makeover.
Sonder Agustin is a civil engineering fresh graduate from Ilocos Norte. Just like many other new graduates, Agustin was unable to take the board exams as these were canceled by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
While waiting, Agustin started working on some woodwork at the shop his family had gifted him. He started with a bed and other furniture in his room, but later realized that he could renovate his room with all the time he has on his hands now.

“To make myself busy this pandemic, I started making some woodwork stuff po, including my bed and other furniture in my room. Then suddenly, as I’m in my room, napa-isip ako, what if i-renovate ko ang room ko?” Agustin explained.
“Kasi wala naman akong pinagkaka-abalahan masyado ngayon, kaya 'yun napagdesisyunan kong i-renovate ang room tutal madami naman akong free time.”
With the help of his family and some friends, Agustin was able to make furniture for his room and renovate it to his liking.
From the bare bedroom, Agustin was able to transform it into a Japanese-inspired room, complete with a wall mural inspired by The Great Wave off Kanagawa which shows a combination of wave and mountain painted by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai.
The room looks fantastic. This would certainly make an excellent part of his portfolio, especially now that so many people are interested with what he was able to accomplish in that bedroom makeover.
Now that he completed the bedroom makeover, Agustin is busy with his small furniture business.
“My family gifted me a small wood workshop, including po 'yung mga power tools sa woodworks, because I really love woodworks,” Agustin said.
