MANILA, Philippines – Former domestic helper Sarah Balabagan claimed that the father of her first born child is Kapuso anchor Arnold Clavio.
After 22 years, Sarah revealed in a Facebook Live that she and Arnold allegedly had a relationship which resulted to her being pregnant.
Sarah made the news back in the 90's when her life story was turned into a film. She was an Overseas Filipino Worker in United Arab Emirates who was imprisoned for killing her employer who attempted to rape her. She was initially sentenced to death, but due to the international outcry and a defense campaign in several countries on her story, the sentence was reduced to a year's imprisonment and 100 lashes. She was later returned to the Philippines.
She said she was tired of hiding the truth and is now ready to admit that her first born child is actually their love child.
“Ang ama po ng panganay ko ay yes, si Arnold Clavio po," Sarah said.
“Kaya ko 'to ginagawa dahil after 22 years, lumabas na naman. Sabi nga nila, walang bahong hindi lalabas. Hindi naman po ako nalungkot dahil by God’s grace, masaya na ako sa buhay ko,” she said.
“Paano ‘pag wala na ako sa mundo? Tapos hindi ko ito kinorek? Baka mamaya maging multo pa ito sa anak ko," she added.
Sarah said she was saddened with the rumors surfacing saying that it was late ambassador Roy Seneres who got her pregnant at that time. She denied it and said it was even the former ambassador and his family who helped her while she was pregnant.
“Si late ambasador Roy po ang tumulong sa akin nu’ng ako ay nabuntis. Tinulungan niya ako para hindi kumalat sa public. Para hindi masira ang image ko noon at ‘yung image nu’ng taong ‘yun," she said.
According to Sarah, she and Arnold became close when the news anchor was covering her story. She said they had a relationship for a year and made a promise never to confess their affair. Sarah said she was 17 years old at that time.
"Nagkakilala kami ni Arnold nu’ng panahong ako ay nakapiit pa at dinalaw nila ako doon. Naging close kami noon ni ‘Kuya Arnold’… At nu’ng unuwi ako sa Pilipinas noong August 1, 1996, isa po siya sa mga nag-cover ng kaso ko. Naging exclusive lang niya ang story," she said.
Sarah said Arnold made her laugh during the difficult time and even toured her around Manila.
“Kaya po kami naging close. Ngayon po, sa lahat ng mga nakakakilala personally kay Arnold Clavio, alam niyo po kung gaano po siya ka-kenkoy. Hindi lamang po ‘yung mukha niya kung hindi po ‘yung... talagang ‘yung sense of humor niya. Kahit ‘pag umiiyak ako, kahit malungkot ako, napapatawa niya po ako. So, just imagine po, na galing ako sa kulungan. Kung gaano po ako ka-vulnerable noon,” she said.
When Sarah converted from being a Muslim to a Christian, she decided to end her affair with Arnold and ultimately forgive him. She also said Arnold's wife reached out to her.
Before the confession ended, Sarah said her apologies to Arnold's family. She said she didn't come out because she wanted to shame Arnold. She only wanted to set the record straight since there were already rumors resurfacing about the incident.
"May mga nagtatanong sa'kin, 'Galit ka ba d'un sa nag-post (about her love child with Arnold)? Ang sabi ko nga, 'Hindi po. It's God's will para maitama ko na 'yung mga dapat i-tama,'" she said.
