MANILA, Philippines – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque clarified reports that President Rodrigo Duterte left the country this weekend.
"There is no truth that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte left the country this weekend," Roque said in a statement on Sunday, August 16.
Roque added the Chief Executive is in the Philippines and closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation.
Duterte has been in Davao City since August 3.
Palace said the next meeting of the members of the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases will push through in Davao City on Tuesday even without Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, who contracted with COVID-19 for the second time.
Año was with Duterte in Davao on August 10 IATF meeting but Roque said secretaries that day had all tested negative.
President Duterte is set to announce the new community quarantine classification of Metro Manila and nearby provinces on Monday, August 17.
