The ex-Manila mayor was reportedly taken to an undisclosed hospital last week.

Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday night confirmed that Lim had been infected with COVID-19. "Siya po ay kumpirmadong may COVID-19 pero mali po yung napabalitang siya po ay patay na," Moreno said to deny rumors claiming the former local chief executive had died.

Lim was a retired police officer who served as a senator from 2004 to 2007.

He served as the Mayor of Manila from 1992 to 1998 and 2007 to 2013.

During the administration of President Corazon Aquino, he was appointed as the Director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), serving from 1989 to 1992.

Due to his tough stance against suspected criminals, Lim earned the nickname "Dirty Harry."
