MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) extending the general community quarantine (GCQ) in Metro Manila and enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Cebu City starting July 1 to stem the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country.

Cebu is now the hotspot of COVID-19 in the Philippines, Duterte said.
"Marami sa inyo ang hindi sumunod. Huwag kayong magalit sa akin," he added.
Aside from NCR, the following areas likewise placed under GCQ until July 15:
The rest of the country will be placed under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), a low-risk classification.
President Duterte placed the entire Luzon island under ECQ in mid-March to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
As of Tuesday, the Philippines recorded 37,514 cases of novel coronavirus along with a death toll 1,266 and 10,233 total recoveries.
