MANILA, Philippines – Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa has an advice to 11,000 employees of ABS-CBN should the network fail to get a franchise from the Congress.
"Hanap ng ibang trabaho para mabuhay at mag sumikap. May ibang paraan pa naman siguro para mabuhay tayo," Dela Rosa said in interview with reporters on Thursday, July 9.
“Alangan namang sabihin ko sa kanila na maghimagsik kayo, magwala kayo, hindi naman pwede yun. Hanap na lang kayo ng ibang trabaho para mabuhay ang pamilya ninyo,” the senator added.
Asked on the consequence in the future of non-renewal of ABS-CBN Corp. franchise, he said:
“Wala akong nakikitang epekto. Epekto? Hindi naman ako apektado dahil hindi naman ako ABS-CBN. Yung taga-ABS-CBN ang apektado,” he said.
“Ako, wala akong nakikitang epekto dahil kung sabihin niyo mawalan din ng news, meron naman din yung ibang mga ibang news outfits na nagpe-perform. So, wala akong nakitang epekto, sa akin. Sa buong community as a whole, wala rin akong nakikita,” he added.

In his statement in February this year, the presidential ally said he is prioritizing the welfare of the millions of Filipinos over the 11,000 workers who may lose their jobs if ABS-CBN's franchise is not renewed.
"What’s is 11,000 compared to the whole Filipino nation na matagal ng sinamantalahan ng isang kumpanya — kung talagang ma-prove yan sa hearing na pinagsamantalahan ang sambayanang Pilipino," the neophyte senator said.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has estimated that 10 million workers in the country will lose their jobs this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In their May 2020 report, DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that 2.6 million workers have already lost their jobs due to the temporary closure of businesses affected by the crisis.
Congressmen are expected to decide on ABS-CBN franchise renewal today or on Friday after the summation of 12 hearings.
The 92 lawmakers will weigh on the importance of ABS-CBN as the network having farthest and widest reach across the archipelago, pioneer and with huge investment on digital television, jobs of 11,000 worker to include those from its subsidiaries, and impact to the economy if Kapamilya Network entirely shuts down.
