MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines (UP) placed 65th in the newly released 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings.
The country's national university rose by 30 spots from last year’s 95th ranking.
Results were announced by the London-based magazine at the Virtual THE Live Asia webinar on Wednesday.

The national university has been featured in the THE Asia University Rankings since 2017. It entered the top 100 for the first time in 2019, soaring 61 places from its 156th position in 2018. In 2017, UP belonged to the 201st-250th ranking group.
Meanwhile, De La Salle University (DLSU) was placed in the 301-350 bracket.
The 2020 Asia University Rankings used the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, but they are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions.
The universities are judged across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.
The list was topped by China's Tsinghua University and Peking University.
Japan is once again the most-represented nation in the list with 110 institutions, up from 103 last year.
The 2020 ranking includes just under 500 universities from 30 territories.
