GMA Affordabox unveiled: features, where to buy, how to use, coverage

MANILA, Philippines – GMA Network finally launched on Friday, June 26, its version of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) receiver called 'GMA Affordabox'.

Starting today, the Kapuso network said GMA Affordabox is now available online and in stores nationwide.

GMA's answer to ABS-CBN TV Plus came five years after the commercial release of Kapamilya network's black box and while the rival station is in struggle of their legislative franchise renewal.

The unveiling of GMA Affordabox also coincides with the 70th anniversary celebration of the Kapuso network.

"Kaya naman, kasabay ng ika-70 anibersaryo ng inyong Kapuso Network, buong puso naming inihahandog sa inyo ang high-quality at abot-kayang digital TV receiver na Para Sa Pilipino--ang GMA Affordabox,” GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon said.

“GMA Affordabox stays true to its name as we make it available in the market at an affordable price, without compromising quality," GMA Network President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. stated.

GMA Affordabox features
  • sturdy metal casing that is expected to last years of TV viewing
  • digital display
  • equipped with a built-in multimedia player that allows users to play compatible video files, view photos, and even listen to music through a USB flash drive
  • Personal Video Recorder lets users record GMA, GMA News TV, and Heart of Asia programs so they will never have to miss an episode of their favorite shows.
  • nationwide Emergency Warning Broadcast System (EWBS), which alerts users to impending calamities in certain areas
  • automatically set off an alarm during emergencies with its functional auto-on alert feature for every family's safety and preparedness
  • Info display (program schedule, line-up) enabled

How to use GMA Affordabox

Ensure your TV and GMA Affordabox are unplugged before you start with the installation.

Step 1: Look for AV output of GMA Affordabox and connect the AV cable according to color. Connect the other end as input to TV.

Step 2: Connect antenna at Antenna In (ANT IN).

Step 3: Plug now your TV and GMA Affordabox.

Installation guide:

Step 1: Using your TV remote control, press TV/AV button.

Step 2: Using GMA Affordabox, select your City/Municipality. Use arrow keys left and right. Make sure you select your exact location so you can receive accurate information of Emergency Warning Broadcast System (EWBS).

Step 3: Press OK button to start Channel Search. NOTE: To avoid interruption, don't press any key while channel search is ongoing.

Step 4: Installation completed. You may now enjoy watching your favorite shows.

Pricing, availability and coverage

GMA Affordabox is available from the official GMA Store at Lazada and Shopee for a one-time purchase of P888 (with no monthly fees). It is cheaper by Php 611 as compared to ABS-CBN TV plus with current pricing of Php 1,499.

GMA Affordabox is a Filipino ISDB-T digital terrestrial television provider owned and operated by GMA New Media, a subsidiary of GMA Network, Inc. The service distributes digital set-top boxes with free-to-view digital television channels, a multimedia player, personal video recorder, broadcast markup language, emergency broadcast warning system, functional automatic on warning, digital display, and information display services for selecting areas in the Philippines. It seems to me that this is a good device for receiving a television signal, although some older users may have problems connecting it, so I advise such people to look for videos on YouTube in which the authors show step by step how to connect GMA Affordabox to any TV in a couple of steps. I found about a hundred videos on this topic there and noticed that most often such videos had at least 25 thousand views! I'm sure this is because their authors used the help of https://soclikes.com/ in order to wind up views for YouTube.
