MANILA, Philippines – A 35-year-old woman died after trying to save 9 dogs from a house fire. She had already gotten out of the house but chose to go back inside to save her beloved pets.
Michelle Grace Mirasol lost her life after attempting to save her ‘fur babies’ after their house burned at around 6:15AM. The house at Lumboy Street, Capitol Heights Phase 1 in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, is owned by Lilia Mirasol.
According to Fire Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, fire marshal ng Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod, Michelle was able to get out of the house, along with her mother and son, but knew that they still have plenty of dogs that needed to be saved. So, she rushed back in.
Thanks to her heroism, three of her nine shih tzu puppies survived. However, the heroic deed cost her life.
Based on their Fire Department’s investigation, the fire began due to fault electrical wiring at the ceiling of the Mirasols’ house. The fire quickly spread all over the house.
It was only after the fire was completely put out that the firefighters were able to find Michelle’s body inside the bathroom. The fire investigators believe that she died of suffocation.
“To some, the dogs are just but properties, things. To people like Michelle, they are family. And family means no one gets left behind. You will forever be remembered to be a selfless furmom. This is so, so heartbreaking,” announced PAWSsion Project.
“Our sincerest condolences to the bereaved family. But our highest respect goes out to you Michelle. You were with your furbabies till the very end. Be happy in heaven with your dogs, Michelle!!”
The organization announced that aside from the three puppies that Michelle was able to save, the Chamber Fire Brigade Bacolod volunteers were also able to save one more puppy.
