MANILA, Philippines – Photos of a man carrying a sack of rice went viral, not only because he looked tired and sweaty but also because he is actually the town mayor who is truly hands-on in bringing relief goods to his constituents! Wow.
Identified as Mayor Gerandy Danao of Narra, Palawan, this man did not think about his status as mayor when he helped carry bags of rice for distribution to his constituents. It amazed so many netizens that a mayor would actually do this kind of manual job!
“MAYOR NA, KARGADOR PA. Mayor ng Narra, Palawan… balewala ang isang sakong bigas… banat na banat ang katawan sa trabaho at pagtulong sa kapwa…,” wrote Coruna B Lyle.
The post impressed netizens who can’t help but comment how their mayors seem to have ‘disappeared’ in this time of disaster.
“Yan Ang totoong Public Servant. May God Bless You. POWER 💪,” one netizen commented.
“Kaya ba yan tapatan ng mayor niyo?” another netizen mused.
Some people pointed out that the mayor does not even own a social media account to tout his achievements. But one constituent answered that the mayor does not like posting his deeds on social media because many people still complain, anyway.
Impressive relief goods
But netizens were even more surprised to learn that the mayor is not just hardworking, he also released enough funds to ensure that every household gets enough food to last an entire month. That means giving 1 sack of rice and lots of relief goods per household, including canned sardines, noodles, instant coffee, and packs of soap.
Netizen Albert Almosara shared photos of the relief goods their family received – and the pictures quickly went viral because of the three sacks of rice and plenty of goods. He clarified, however, that they received a lot because there are three families living inside one house. They put the goods together because they also share the same kitchen.
Still, it is impressive that they received this much and that the three families were counted differently despite living in just one house.
