MANILA, Philippines – The number of recovered patients from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Philippines overtook the death toll on Wednesday, April 15 as total cases jumped to 5,453.
A record-high 58 new recoveries was reported by the Department of Health (DOH), bringing the total number of recovered individuals to 353. This is higher than the total fatalities of 349 after 14 new deaths were logged today.
DOH said it takes 2 weeks for mild cases to recover while 3 to 6 weeks for critical cases.
Meanwhile, the health department reported 230 new infections.
In Southeast Asia, the Philippines has the most number of COVID-19 cases. It was followed by Malaysia with 4,987 and Indonesia with 4,839 cases.
As of Tuesday, COVID-19 testing centers in the country have so far conducted 38,103 tests - 14.7% came out positive while 85.2% turned out negative.
The government already started on Tuesday its expanded COVID-19 testing to cover more patients.
