MANILA, Philippines – The topnotcher of the 2019 Bar Examination shared how she received the good news.
Mae Diane Azores of the University of Santo Tomas in Legaspi aced the bar with a rating of 91.0490%.
Azores shared how she cut herself off from social media and instead prayed before looking at the bar results.
"Sobrang saya po. Before ko malaman results, nag-off ako ng wifi at phone. Nag-rosary ako," she said.

She went on to say that the first person she called was her mother. "Then nagbukas na ko ng phone, tapos may nag-send sa akin ng picture [nung top 10] tapos sumigaw na ko ng "Mama, Mama," Azores said.
Before she achieved her dream of being a lawyer, Azores is already a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) working in the Commission on Audit.
The new lawyer from Bicol shared that she didn't expect to ace the bar because she was from the province.
Azores said, "But I did not expect to be number one. To pass the Bar is enough, People in our place are afraid to dream big. In the province, education is not that big a priority. It’s really just about everyday living."
She said that her dream of becoming a lawyer was also her parents' dream for themselves but they "were not able to achieve it due to some reasons."
Now, Azores said she offers her achievement to her parents and family. She said, "This is my gift to my parents. I really don’t own all praises. It’s for my parents and God."
This year, the bar exam posted a passing rate of 27.36% with a total of 2,103 passers from the 7,699 candidates who took the exam. Last year, the bar exam passing rate was at 22.07%.
The 2019 Bar exams were held at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) during all four Sundays of November.
