MANILA, Philippines – A teacher died while 13 were hurt as their van figured in a road mishap in Batangas province on Friday the 13th.
Police report said that the accident happened around 4:30 a.m. as the van carrying delegates from the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) in Tuguegarao City in the Cagayan Valley region, crashed in Southern Tagalog Arterial Road tollway in Ibaan town.
Batangas Police Colonel Edwin Quilates identified the fatality as Marie Joy Maming, a teacher from Manoot National High School in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.
She was with seven other teachers and five students after attending NSPC. They were in a rush on their way home for fear of being stuck in Manila as "community quarantine" will take effect on Sunday.
