MANILA, Philippines – Photos and videos of Manila Bay with turquoise blue waters amid the lockdown have gone viral, with many netizens saying that COVID-19 might be bad for humans, but it has cleaned up Mother Earth.
People who have been to Manila Bay know just how dark and dirty the waters can be, no thanks to the decades of pollution that turned the once beautiful waters into murky, smelly silt. But it seems that the enhanced community quarantine imposed by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte in Metro Manila and Luzon has done a lot of good to the bay.
Just days after the enhanced community quarantine was imposed, the cleaner air revealed the beauty of the Sierra Madre mountains near Metro Manila. The air in the metropolis has been filled with smog for so long that people had forgotten the mountain range was actually there.

But soon, some netizens would share photos of the turquoise blue waters at Manila Bay. At first, many netizens thought the pictures were just edited but as many began posting pictures and videos, it was soon clear that the beautiful sight is for real.
“Parang ang linis ng Manila Bay ngayon ano? Boracay level!” netizen John Angue wrote on his Facebook account.
Instead of the usual blackish waters, waters off the shore looked so clear and blue that some netizens even likened them to Boracay. Of course, many conceded that it would take many more decades of the lockdown for the waters of Manila Bay to become like Boracay for real. But the turquoise blue waters look so beautiful that many netizens said they would have driven there to check out the sight if there was no lockdown at the moment.
