MANILA, Philippines – The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced today the suspension of March 29, 2020 Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET) following the increasing number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country.
Aside from LET, other scheduled PRC board exams in March and April 2020 were also cancelled (LIST: Postponed PRC board exam March, April 2020 - LET, PLE, Medtech, ECE, Midwifery, REE, Pharmacist).
This is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 922 dated March 8, 2020 declaring a state of public health emergency throughout the country, and the recommendations of the Department of Health (DOH) and Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF) to prohibit mass gatherings, and to further ensure the safety of the examinees and employees of the PRC.
On Tuesday, news about the possible cancellation of March 29, 2020 Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET) circulated online.
A viral message, coming from Dr. Brenda B. Corpuz, posted by Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE) - National said "Just got texted message from Dr. Paz Lucido informing me that March 29 LET is cancelled." Corpuz is the National President of PAFTE while Lucido is the Vice Chairman of the Board for Professional Teachers.
While the PAFTE post is already deleted as of press time, review center owner Dr. Carl Balita echoed the possible postponement of the LET. "How do you feel about Board Exams being postponed because of the CoViD19 crisis?," Balita shared earning mixed reactions from netizens and his followers.
"I think having the board exam in the midst of the corona virus outbreak is a risk for our health - not only physically but also mentally. Think of the stress we will go through while taking it, plus the fear of being infected with the virus, it might cause failure to the exam. So, I think it's safe to postpone the board exam," netizen Jovelyn Ejercito commented.
Note that LET is one of the biggest licensure exams in the country being handled by PRC. An estimated total of 100,000 individuals nationwide are expected to take the one-day exams.
