MANILA, Philippines – The photo of a tarpaulin, proudly announcing a young woman’s success after passing the board exam for mechanical engineers, goes viral as it is placed in front of a patched up, dilapidated house. By itself, the photo is inspiring enough, but the story behind it has warmed netizens’ hearts even more.
Crystalle Mae Manalo shares the photo of the tarpaulin, proudly ordered by her grandma, Gloria Mamaradlo Manalo, when she passed the February 2020 Mechanical Engineer Licensure Examination.
A lot of netizens were inspired by Crystalle’s outlook in life, especially because she wasn’t ashamed of posting that tarpaulin in front of their dilapidated house. Not that there’s something to be ashamed of, of course! This house might not be as ‘beautiful’ as the others, yet she found love in this home.
It is also the place where Crystalle helped many other students struggling in their studies as she tutored them and helped them pass! According to this wonderful young woman, this is also the place where she and her group made their thesis.
Hardworking student
Crystalle graduated with a degree in BS Mechanical Engineering from Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Calamba as Academic Excellence Awardee!
Thanks to Nanay Gloria, Crystalle was able to go to school. But this hardworking student also did her best to earn on her own, sharing that she’s a ‘proud tindera’.

“Naging scholar po ako nung first year to 3rd year..
She helped augment the family's income through selling but there were many times when she and the family had to take loans or make promissory notes for the tuition payment. Yet she remained positive in her outlook in life and, more importantly, she never felt ashamed of her humble abode. Truly, she is an inspiration!
