MANILA, Philippines – A designer recently went viral for making free gown for a high school student who only had Php30 as downpayment. The girl couldn’t afford to rent even their cheapest gown, but the kind designer decided to let her use an expensive piece worth Php5,000!
Studying at Mangatarem National High School, the girl had to attend the JS Prom but didn’t have money to pay for the gown. Taking pity on the girl, particularly after learning about her mother’s job, designer Rica Cariño Lopez decided to lend her a piece even if she couldn’t afford to pay for it.
This went viral after she wrote about the experience on her social media account.
Rica narrated that the student went to the shop to inquire about their gowns but was dismayed to learn the price of their cheapest gown.
It was obvious that the girl didn’t even know if she could find enough money to add to her downpayment. Thus, she shyly whispered as she asked Rica whether she could start paying the downpayment to reserve gown but could only afford Php30 at the moment.
Shocked at the low-ball offer, Rica was left speechless. But she also took pity on the girl, knowing that the Php30 she was offering could be her only allowance for the entire day.
Because the owner of a nearby shop knows the family as their child is this girl’s classmate, Rica went there to inquire about the young woman. She felt so sad after learning of the job of the young girl’s mom (she didn’t mention what it was) that Rica decided to simply let the kid have the gown for free!
“Biglang nalungkot aq nung kinikwento Ni ate ung hanap buhay NG Ina nung isang studyante. Kaya bigla Kong pinatawag ung bata. At un na nga xa ang kauna unahang napili nmen na iwa-wardrobe NG Ricahson Gown and Suit Collection para sa pangarap NG bata na makasali sa JS prom,” Rica wrote.
The sweet gesture went viral, with many netizens wishing Rica more success in her business.
But it turned out that Rica is such a kind person as she often offers her services as makeup artist for free, particularly to those who can’t afford it. Wow. Kudos, Ma’am Rica!
