MANILA, Philippines – British singer and Grammy Awards winner Sam Smith couldn't hide his belief over the cover of his hit song made by a Filipino student.
On Twitter, Smith shared his reaction on a viral video of a student singing his hit song, "Too Good at Goodbyes." He re-uploaded the video and shared his amazement, "WHO IS THIS KID!!!!!? YOU ARE OUT OF THIS UNIVERSE WHOEVER YOU ARE."
The viral Filipino student turned out to be Carl Malone Montecido, a person with disability (PWD) from Bacolod. In the video, Montecido can be seen impressively belting out Smith's song at the entertainment aisle of a mall. The video taken by Trixie Madison has garnered more than 7 million views since posting.
Compliments and praise poured in for the student. Even foreign netizens weighed in on Montecido's performance and were also impressed. Many even commented how so many Filipinos are naturally good at singing.
This is not Montecido's first time at fame. He last battled it out at It's Showtime's "Tawag ng Tanghalan" back in 2016. He was dubbed the "Blind Balladeer" and won 5th place during the grand finals.
The blind balladeer's life story was also featured in the drama anthology Maalala Mo Kaya (MMK). Based on the episode, Montecido, at a young age, knew that he had a great voice that dared him to dream to become a famous singer someday.
