MANILA, Philippines – A 64-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman from Maguindanao have tied the knot on Valentine’s Day.
A man and a woman with a 41- year age gap proved that age doesn't matter when it comes to love. Bride Venus Usman and groom Max Gandalibo chose the "day of hearts" as their "Kalilang" or wedding date. While both of their families do not celebrate Valentine's Day following their ethnic beliefs, the newlyweds chose the day to ensure their province's governor, second district Rep. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu would be available as part of their principal sponsors.
Mangudadatu shared photos of the wedding and said how it was proof that love knows no age.

Mangudadatu was also a principal sponsor of the controversial union of Freddie Aguilar and his 16-year-old girlfriend Jovie Gatdula Albao on November 21, 2013. At that time, Aguilar, who was already in his early 70's was accused of engaging in an "unlawful and immoral" romance with a minor. The musician decided to convert to Islam and married Albao to hush his detractors.
While the Philippine's civil code states that the legal age for marriage is 18 years old, the Islamic Shariah Law says otherwise. The Shariah Law allows marriage to any woman who has had her first menstrual day, as exemplified in the marriage of Prophet Mohammad with Aisha, who was about 16-year old then. The husband is also allowed to have up to 4 wives.
